Both are cash outflows, but there is a significant difference between them.

Expenses provide benefit only in the current cycle. Whereas when we invest, we create assets. These assets provide us value in the longer run.

The same concept applies to time.

We either spend our time or invest it. It takes effort to invest time instead of spending it.
